Description
A super-tough but cute little evergreen spreader or climber, Kewensis Euonymus features highly attractive foliage of tiny, jewel-toned dark green leathery leaves that form a lovely low carpet only 2 to 3 inches high or slowly climb walls, trees, boulders or other structures its aerial roots can cling to. It is great for creating a “live wall.” Its also perfect for use to fill between widely spaced stepping stones in pathways and to cascade over walls and the edges of pots in container gardens. Because its stems root as they spread along the ground, it also serves as an attractive soil stabilizer on small slopes. Extremely adaptable, Kewensis Euonymus will grow in almost any soil and full sun or full shade. Deer, insects and other pests don’t like it, and we’ve seen no problems with disease. An uncommon yet precious little spreading climber that can be easily grown and enjoyed by gardeners in USDA Zones 4a (-30F) through Zone 9b.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 2 to 3 inches tall with trailing stems that root in as they go, Kewensis Euonymus is ideal for use as a groundcover or climber in full sun or full shade and everything between. As a groundcover it will spread slowly but indefinitely with stems that root in as they grow across the ground, which makes for an attractive soil stabilizer on small slopes. Growing Preferences
Kewensis Euonymus is exceptionally easy to grow in full sun or full shade and most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility, including clay. It has good drought tolerance when established but doesn’t like a constantly soggy or wet soil. Though it can spread indefinitely, it does so slowly, which makes it easy to control for shaping purposes or to keep in bounds with an occasional trimming.Â
