The Royal Flush Shi Shi Camellia Sasanqua is without a doubt one of our favorites among the fall to winter blooming Camellias! Royal Flush produces an amazing plethora of gorgeous, bright rose-pink semi-double flowers in fall to early winter. Growing in a compact mound 4 to 5 feet tall with an equal spread, the new growth in spring emerges variegated in spring and gradually turns to green in summer. Its dwarf size makes it an excellent choice for smaller garden spaces and in home foundation plantings and is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or planted in groupings or a hedge row for beautiful fall and spring color!Â
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing only 4 to 5 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide (depending on pruning), the Royal Flush Shi Shi Camellia is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a hedge in landscape borders. It is especially suited for use in partially shaded home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Camellia gardens, Asian gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who live and garden above USDA Zone 7a, where this camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing:Â 3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedge; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note:Â Â For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
