One of the easiest and prettiest flowering shrubs you’ll ever grow, but now in a smaller package with enhanced fragrance, Scentlandia Sweetspire features longer and larger more fragrant flower spires than and other Itea we’ve grown in our gardens. This North American native forms a compact mound 3 feet tall and wide which makes it a perfect fit for smaller garden spaces where larger growing varieties won’t fit. In late spring to early summer, abundant bottle-brush like cylindrical spires packed with fragrant white flowers are sure to attract the butterflies and hummingbirds. Oval, green leaves turn blazing red over a long period with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall. Exceptionally versatile and a shrub anyone can grow, Scentlandia thrives in full sun to heavy shade, average to wet soils, and requires little if any maintenance. Make sure to plant this one near patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces where the fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.

Growing 2 to 3 tall and equally as wide, Scentlandia Sweetspire is a perfect choice for adding elegance, fragrance, and color to small or large spaces and pots, planters and other containers. Its smaller stature makes it a good fit for an accent where space is limited or in groupings or as a low hedge in larger landscape spaces. Excellent near patios, porches, decks and around other outdoor living spaces where the fragrance and butterflies feeding can be enjoyed from up close. A fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, fragrance gardens, cut flower gardens, white or red theme gardens, or sunny or shady woodland borders.

Suggested Spacing:  2.5 feet apart for solid hedges;  6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Sweetspire is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained to periodically wet soil in full sun or heavy shade. Good drought tolerance when established. Very little if any pruning required.
