Description
A color and texture delight in the landscape, the Twisting Red Leucothoe is a rare selection of dwarf fetterbush that is similar to ‘Curly Red’ but with smaller leaves and deeper coloring. The 18 to 24 inch tall and wide evergreen mound is densely packed with twisting and curling leaves that emerge red maturing to green in summer and then to a glowing red fall and winter. An extremely cute plant that is sure to be a conversation piece in the shady to partially shaded garden or in pots that can be situated on patios, decks, porches, balconies and around other outdoor living areas and sitting spaces.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a dense mound to 1.5 to 2 feet tall and equally as wide, the Twisting Red Leucothoe is deal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or in groupings, as a border or in mass plantings in large, shaded to partly shaded landscape or woodland borders. Also excellent as a solor or combined with other plants in container gardens. A fine addition to woodland gardens, red theme gardens, native gardens, and looks especially nice around boulders and garden ponds.Â
Suggested Spacing:Â 18 inches apart for solid hedges;Â 4 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Twisting Red Leucothoe is very easy to grow in organically rich, moist but well-drained acidic soils and shade to part shade. Morning and evening sun is okay but provide shade during the afternoon hours. Maintenance is minimal except for a snipping here or there of a stray branch.
